Baton Rouge also known as Red Stick is the state capital and the second largest city of Louisiana in US. The flourishing city of Baton Rouge with a rich culture is located on the southeastern region of Louisiana and on the banks of the Mississippi river. The city of Baton Rouge is spread on an area of 204.8 sq. km approximately and holds a population of 228,000 to 235,000 approximately.
Baton Rouge houses the LSU and the Southern University along with many businesses houses and high tech industries. It is considered to be one of the important industrial, petrochemical, and port centers of Southern America. Baton Lounge also serves as the administrative of East Baton Rouge Parish. Baton Rouge was found somewhere in 1699 by the French. The French ruled over Baton Rouge from 1699 to1763, approximately. After the French came the Britishers who ruled over Baton Rouge from 1763-1779 followed by the Spanish who ruled from 1779-1810, approximately. In the year 1810 the Spanish were conquered by the native people who declaring themselves an independent community and renamed the state as the West Florida Republic. After a short while the West Florida Republic was captured and divided by the state of Louisiana establishing the East Boston Rouge Parish.
After the inclusion of the state of Louisiana into the American Union in the year 1812 Baton Rouge was included in the state in 1817 and then in the year 1849 it was declared as the state capital for Louisiana.
