The publication of Anchorage Daily News was started in the year 1946. During its early years of publication Anchorage Daily News was known as Anchorage News and it came out as a weekly newspaper. The first publisher of Anchorage News was Norman Brown. Initially the newspaper was distributed at post offices and newsstands as there was no home delivery of Anchorage News. Two years later, in 1948, Anchorage News started to be circulated for six days a week. Gradually the circulation of Anchorage Daily News started to grow and in 1964 the newspaper started to come out in the morning and soon became a major morning daily in Alaska.


In 1989 80% stake of Anchorage Daily News was taken over by McClatchy Newspaper. With a present work-force of more than four hundred full-time employees, the Anchorage Daily News brings honest news to its readers and subscribers.
