Manchester School of Architecture


The Manchester School of Architecture is one of the premier institutions in the city devoted to architecture. This school was created (1996) by the joint effort of Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester. Also known as MSA, this school offers extensive teaching and research facilities at both the institutions. Education in Manchester School of Architecture

The professional and academic career development at MSA is classified into three levels. The undergraduate studies in this school offer degrees like BA and ARB/RIBA Part 1. After completing this level, the students are allowed to attend the next level of professional studies. They are entitled to degrees like Barch and ARB/RIBA Part 2.

Graduate School of Architectural & Urban Studies is a part of MSA offering MA and PhD degrees. MSA is also a leading international center for research in architecture and urban studies. MSA features the School of Environment and Development affiliated to the University of Manchester and also the Faculty of Art and Design (Manchester Metropolitan University).

The Manchester School of Architecture's college system offers a range of choices in the field of architecture. The Manchester School of Architecture is made up of four colleges and a special project unit. The four colleges are Materiality, Continuity in Architecture, Bioclimatic, Landscape and Urbanism.

Research at Manchester School of Architecture

The colleges offer opportunities for Post-graduate research and also train for the studio teaching and provide lectures and workshops at every level. Among the MSA projects, the most acclaimed one is the Barch. This rigorous schedule of research helps the students to learn the practical and contemporary architectural trends and improve professional knowledge.
