The Manchester City Council is the administrative unit of the local government of Manchester. Manchester City Council is the local authority that looks after the development and the growth of the metropolitan borough of Manchester in Greater Manchester. The City Council of Manchester comprises of 96 councilors, three for each of the 32 wards.
History of Manchester City Council
Under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835, Manchester was integrated as the Corporation of Manchester or Manchester Corporation in the year 1838. In 1853, it achieved the status of a city. The Manchester City Council was formed under the Local Government Act 1972 and was reconstituted as a metropolitan borough council.

The councilors, for their services receive a certain amount of allowances. These allowances are reviewed every year by an Independent Remuneration Panel.
