Manchester Irish Festival is one of the biggest annual events in Britain. This festival is not concentrated in one particular venue of the city; rather the festivities are carried on in various venues of Manchester with pomp and show. The festival is to celebrate the Irish culture.

The bond between Manchester and the Ireland is visible during this festival. The annual Irish Festival in Manchester is considered to be the largest in UK and one of the leading events in the world. The festival usually occurs in the month of March. The prime attractions of Manchester Irish Festival is the St Patrick's Parade, showcasing more than 70 floats, bands and pedestrian groups walking in procession across the city and the Irish Market with the exquisite collection of arts and crafts, gifts and special delicacies across the Irish Sea.

Origin of Manchester Irish Festival

The Manchester Irish Festival was first celebrated in 1996 by the then President of Ireland Mary Robinson. Ever since, this event has grown to be one of the
biggest events in the whole of Europe. The festival includes performances by Shane McGowan, Riverdance, Toss the Feathers, Westlife, Lord of the Dance, Sharon Shannon, The Corrs, Van Morrison, Stocktons Wing, Mary Black Hazel O'Connor and The Oyster Band during its initial years. Various types of comedy acts are enacted by famous Irish Comedians like Ardal O'Hanlon, Tommy Tiernan, Peter Kay, Jason Byrne and Dylan Moran.

Levenshulme village is the biggest Irish community outside London and one of the most frequented venues of the Irish festival in Manchester. This venue stages over forty events with more than a hundred performers. Some events are free of charge, while some events can be viewed after purchasing tickets.

The Manchester Irish Festival is one of the biggest celebrations in Europe and celebrates the lifestyle of Emerald Isle with two consecutive weeks of partying, theatre, music, sport, comedy and dance. The main shows of this festival take place during the middle weekend of the month of March. This festival attracts around 150,000 people from all over the world.
