Structure of Godlee Observatory
The Godlee has an array of meeting rooms at the ground floor of the Sackville Building within the premises of University of Manchester at the Sackville Street. These meeting rooms are situated just below the observatory, which can be accessed by a spiral staircase reaching up to the enormous telescope pier. This pier is supported by huge steel I-beams that spans through the entire observatory tower. The high-ceiling octagon room offers superb views of the spectacular Manchester city. This observatory features 6 life size windows along its 8 walls. The octagon room houses the library showcasing a large collection of reference books related to astronomy.
The octagon room is also used as a seminar venue for open forums or informal discussions. It is also used for telescope manufacturing and mirror making classes. The demonstrations related to astrophotography are usually electronically controlled

and has gained high acclamation from the visitors.The North West Group of Astronomical Societies show special interest in the workshops and seminars conducted at this observatory. The small lecture room is actually the computer laboratory. Informal Lectures are regularly imparted by the senior members regarding some current interesting topics like nova, meteor shower, eclipse or comet.
The members of astronomical societies enjoy free internet access and can also use astronomical and image processing software. The members of astronomical societies enjoy free access to the observatory and its new equipments including 8" refractor, counterbalanced by a 12" Newtonian reflector. This refractor is required to view the moon and other brighter objects. PowerPoint presentations and Slides shows are conducted at the Octagon Room. A cable link connects the web camera to the telescope in the observatory.
