Fear of Music

Fear of Music is a popular four-piece indie and alternative band based in Manchester, England. Three well known musicians, Jo Rose (vocalist and guitarist), Ali Esmaail (bass player) and Chris Stanley (drummer) came together to form the band in 2001. Later, Mike Ward joined the band in 2003 as guitarist.

Fear of Music band is probably the most recent and most popular band in Manchester. They signed with the Sony/BMG Records in 2005 and are controlled by the Nettwerk Management. Their popular 2006 release, known as ‘Fast.Faster.Fastest.’ EP was sponsored by the well known music producer John Leckie.

The present group members of Fear of Music are Mike Ward, Jo Rose, Rick Morgan and Ali Esmaail. In February, 2007 the band released the internationally claimed album ‘We Are Not The Enemy’ EP, produced by Dimitri Tikovoi. In May 2007 Fear of Music band toured with the Manic Street Preachers for six days.
The idea of Fear of Music band had originated when Joe Rose and Chris Stanley became friends in Oswald Road primary school in 1996. Chris met the bassist Ali Esmaill in late 2001, at a concert of Spineshank. The band, during its initial years played songs of other popular lyricists, but soon they started writing their own songs. The early days were filled with struggle and failures. Their first recording attempt was the “All Is But A Game” EP, recorded with a clumsy microphone inserted into Ali’s computer, which was only a fumbling collage of lyrics, fuzzy bass sound and indistinct traces of drums, guitars and vocals.

However, some of the popular music by Fear of Music includes A Strange Kind of Terror, Skin & Bones, The Creeps, Hey Princess, Millions Screaming, The Waltz, Bitter Medicine, Ghost in a Jar and others. The first single release of Fear of Music is First To Go, which is scheduled to be released in early 2008.
