Factory Records is a reputed Manchester based British independent recording company. The company was established in1978 featuring several prominent musical performances in its list such as The Durutti Column, Joy Division, Happy Mondays, A Certain Ratio, New Order and Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark. The company of Factory Records in Manchester worked under notable record manager and producers such as Martin Hannett and graphic designer Peter Saville.
History of Factory Records
The Factory Records came into existence in January, 1978. Tony Wilson, a TV host on Granada Television and Alan Erasmus, an actor and band manager worked together to form this recording company. The Factory initially worked for a club. This club comprised of several local bands including Cabaret Voltaire, The Durutti Columnand and Joy Division. While advertising for the club, Tony and Alan decided to release a musical EP. Only after this EP release, the duo thought of establishing the Factory Record with popular musicians like Wilson, Saville, Erasmus and producer

Factory Records is one of the most reputed companies of Manchester, contributing not only to the musical domain of the city but has largely contributes to the national income. In 1989, Factory Classical was launched with five unique albums by composer Steve Martland, the Duke String Quartet, the Kreisler String Orchestra, pianist Rolf Hind and the oboe player Robin Williams.
