Dpercussion was a new form of music that originated in Manchester, lasted for 10 glorious years and came to an end. Dpercussion in Manchester brought a huge change in the domain of English music. The last show of Dpercussion was held in Castlefield.
Origin of Dpercussion
After the bomb blast IRA in 1996, the people of the city decided to revive the souls of the natives and develop its spirit of optimism with various initiatives. A young music director, Steve Smith decided to venture the domain of music and bring about new kind of shows. These shows were held at the canals, walkways and summer bars of Manchester. It was known as RE.percussion. The aim was to uphold the optimistic repercussions of the bomb.
In 1998, the name changed to Dpercussion. The D meant Digital and indicated the rise of the digital revolution. Dpercussion music form became famous

across the city as a summer season festival. The event mainly comprised live music, where the hip-hop was blended with digital music. In 2000, Dpercussion and Waters Edge created a massive two day event. Manchester’s electronic beats became world famous since then.
Due to the fluctuating aid from the public and commercial sectors, Dpercussion missed some years of performance. However, the organizers tried to pull the funds together and finally Dpercussion appeared again in 2004. During this event, Manchester experienced one of its most exciting days. Some of the artists who have graced the stage of Dpercussion include Backdraft, Akala, Andy Votel, Beat Monkeys, Cherry Ghost and many others.
Although the event of Dpercussion is no more held in Manchester, its existence can be viewed through various displays and records at the Castlefield Arena in Liverpool Road. The 4th of August was considered to be a day for celebrating music in Manchester after Dpercussion came to an end.
