Brooke Bond


Brooke Bond is a major tea-retailing brand in United Kingdom. The Brooke Bond factory premises are located at Trafford Park in Manchester. Founded in 1845 by Arthur Brooke, Brooke Bond & Company started its journey from Manchester, with its first teashop in this city. Till today, the company is a market leader in tea retailing business and is known worldwide. The name 'Bond' was added to make it sound pleasant and attractive to the customers.

Arthur Brooke the founder of Brook Bond tried his luck in textile industry but failed miserably. With a meager investment of 400 pounds he opened his first teashop in Manchester, England where he offered good quality of tea and coffee at a reasonable price. In 1898, Arthur Brooke introduced his own brand 'True Tea'. Soon this variety became very popular nationwide. Brooke opened new shops in other major cities like Liverpool, Leeds and Bradford.

PF Tips is the most famous brand of Brooke Bond Tea, which was introduced in the market in 1930. In UK, it is one of the best selling tea brands. The company to
effectively sell their product used innovative marketing methods. In the 1950's and 1960's the introduction of tea cards in their tea packets was a unique marketing strategy. Usually, a single series consisted of 50 cards, which were collected by the enthusiastic children. Charles Tunnicliffe, a world famous bird painter designed and drew the illustrations in these cards. The theme was basically British Wild life. Various series regarding British wild Flowers, British Wild Animals and Tropical Birds were released. Later on, the company also incorporated historical subjects.

Brook Bond & Company in Manchester has merged with Van den Bergh Foods Limited, and is now and integral part of Unilever. This tea brand has become popular in countries like India and Pakistan. Brooke Bond Supreme is one of the best selling tea brands. Brooke Bond employs around 200 million people all across UK, with more than 480 based in Manchester.

Brooke Bond & Company, which started as a small teashop in Manchester developed and emerged as one of the leading tea retailing brands not only in UK but the whole world.
