B3 Cable Solutions is a privately owned company engaged in the manufacture and supply of rail, energy and telecommunications cable in the whole of United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. In short, it is known as B3. Both the headquarters and a manufacturing plant of B3 Cable Solutions are located in Blackley, Manchester. The second manufacturing plant of this company is in Longford in the Republic of Ireland.
At present B3 Cable Solutions is a world leader in cable manufacturing. The company provides innovative cabling products and world-class supply chain solutions to major blue chip companies all over the world in different countries of Mainland Europe, UK, Ireland and also Middle East.
B3 Cable Solutions – a brief history
The history of B3 dates back to 100 years. The Manchester plant manufactured cables under the name of Connolly's (Blackley) Limited. Then the company merged with the former world leading BICC cables in the year 1966, thus entering into the business of manufacturing telecommunications cable products. The company was the first to own an Optical Fibre Cable production facility in UK. The factory at Blackley was the only one, which manufactured copper cables for telecommunication. Corning, a renowned businessman and politician purchased the communication division of BICC in 1999. Within a year he sold the factory to Belden Electronics Division, a company with its core business as designing and manufacturing of wire and cable products. After years of profitable business, Belden decided to exit from cable business and there was a big question mark about the company's future. Finally, B3 Cable Solutions was formed on March 2006 after the management bought the cable manufacturing plant from Belden.
Since its formation the company has been expanding and venturing into new markets leading to the acquisition of the former ABB Cable manufacturing plant at Longford in the Republic of Ireland.
