Manchester is a relatively new city in U.K, which was born as a result of the industrial revolution. It is a metropolitan borough in the North of England with city status. The city is also one of the largest metropolitan conurbations in the United Kingdom. Manchester is considered as the center of the arts, the media, higher education and commerce. Greater Manchester County consists of the City of Manchester and the other metropolitan boroughs. The city leads in textile manufacture and production that is a major source of income to the city. It is represented by four tiers of government such as Manchester City Council, North West Regional Assembly, UK Parliament and European Parliament. The city is also part of the Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester.

Geographical Features:
Manchester is nestled in a bowl-shaped basin. The north and east of the city is encircled by the Pennine hills, a vast mountain chain stretching from Northern England and to the south along the Cheshire Plain. The River Mersey dissects the city into two halves at the southern part. The confluence point of River Irwell, Medlock and Irk is very near to the Manchester city center, which lies on the east bank of the River Irwell. The city is a low lying land situated between 115 to 138 feet above the sea level.

The weather of Manchester is variable and changes frequently. Summers are characterized by relatively cool conditions. In July, the average temperature of the city remains at 59° F (15° C). The summers are usually sunny and bright. Winters are cold and experience frequent snowfalls. The average temperature of Manchester in January is around 39° F (4° C). Rainfall may occur anytime throughout the year. Due to sudden high pressures, the weather sometimes becomes very hot during the summers or too cold during the winters. But this condition remains for a short period.
