The first stall of the Marks & Spencer was opened in Leeds Kirkgate Market. In its early years, it used to sell only British made goods under the brand name, “St Michael”. It opened up its branches in continental Europe in 1975 and in Ireland in 1979. In 1988, M&S acquired the Kings Super Markets and the Brooks. The first advertising for M&S clothing was broadcast in 1990s.
