The history of Ludgate Hill and St Paul's Cathedral
Ludgate Hill, widely known as one of the three ancient hills of London is imparted with historic significance. Located close to the gate of old Ludgate, the Ludgate Hill region houses the St Paul's Cathedral. This site was originally occupied by a Roman Temple dedicated to Roman Goddess Diana. During 1st century BC, the city of London was established by great King Ludd and the name of the hill is borrowed from ‘Ludd-deen’ or ‘Valley of Ludd’. The Cathedral of St. Paul’s is positioned on the summit of Ludgate Hill. The site of the cathedral was the main colony of renowned ruler Ludd. Ludgate or Roman Gate of Ludd was constructed just below the cathedral.
