Geography of London

The geography of London gives an insight into the major geographical entities of the city.

The geography of London includes information about the area of the city and its principle topographical features. The city of London occupies an area of 1,572 kilometers square. Owing to its area it is considered to be the smallest city in the whole of United Kingdom. It occupies just about 0.65 % of the total territory of the country.

Boundaries of London

The British capital city comprises of a couple of sub regions. These are known as Outer London and Inner London. London occupies almost a central location. The eastern and northern fringes of the city are bordered by the regions of East of England. The western and


southern parts are surrounded by South East region of England.

London Rivers

There are several rivers that flow through London. Apart from the River Thames, other rivers that flow through the region include the Cray River and Brent River. There are also a couple of canals that flow through the city. These include the Grand Union Canal and the Regent's Canal. Of all these River Thames, forms an inseparable part of the landscape of the city. It constitutes one of the main rivers that flows through the south of England. The river flows through Windsor, Oxford and Reading. The surrounding area in Oxford and West London is known as the Thames valley.
