London City Hall, is the office of the Greater London Council, the Mayor and the London Assembly. The building sits on the south bank of river Thames beside the Tower Bridge. It was designed by the Foster and Partners of Lord Norman Foster.
London City Hall came into being with the birth of Greater London Council. A new building was required to house the London Assembly and the Mayor. The sight and design of the new building was selected on the basis of a contest. The new building was designed by the Foster and Partners of Lord Norman Foster. The construction of this building was completed in 2002.
Construction of the London City Hall:
Prior to that the County Hall used to house the London Government. The City Hall was built after a Japanese corporation bought the County Hall in 1993. From 1993 to 2002, the Greater London Authority was housed in a building on Marsham Street in Westminster. The new building or the City Hall was constructed on the south bank of Thames River. The City Hall of London sits beside the Tower Bridge.
