Initially, the area of Battersea was an agricultural farmland. The area developed after the industrial revolution took place in London. Industries like brewery and calico printing flourished during the first few years of development of Battersea. After the construction of railway lines, Battersea expanded its reach considerably. The year 1929 witnessed the construction of Battersea Power Station. The presence of Thames River helped in the industrial development of the place as the river provided water for steam engines and transport.
