Formerly known as the Liverpool Museum, the World Museum Liverpool is a storehouse of various kinds of objects collected from different parts of the world related to history, culture and science. The museum consists of a planetarium, models of dinosaurs and several galleries.
Instituted in 1851, the World Museum Liverpool is the oldest and the largest of all the national museums in the city. Featuring a vast and impressive collection of historical artifacts, this museum is one of the most significant attractions of Liverpool.
The initial exhibits included a collection related to natural history. This collection was left by the 13th Earl of Derby. Today, the museum is a storehouse of artifacts and antiquities ranging from coins and medals to objects related to archeology, decorative and applied art and natural sciences.
World Museum Liverpool: House of Wonders
The display at World Museum Liverpool comprises a spectacular range of exhibits collected from various parts of the world. These exhibits are on display at the different sections and galleries of World Museum Liverpool which are as follows:

on display a two meter house fly and few living insects. At World Cultures, visitors get to see over 1,500 objects that have been collected from Asia, Africa, North and South America and Oceania. The collection at World Cultures represents the diverse cultures of various countries and is one of the most fascinating sections of World Museum Liverpool.Weston Discovery Center has objects related to archeology, ethnology and modern technology. This section, with computer interactive games and special activities, is truly a house of discovery. Visitors can also watch video conferences, musical shows and dance performances that are staged at the Treasure House Theater.
Several interesting features of the World Museum Liverpool, related to history, culture and science, include the Planetarium, Aquarium, Mummies, Archaeological section, Space section and models of Dinosaurs etc.
Visitor Information
World Museum Liverpool remains open from 10 am to 5 pm on all days except Sundays. On Sundays, the museum opens at midday and closes at 5 pm. The museum remains closed on 25th December, 26th December and 1st January. No entry fee is required to enter the museum. Entry to the Planetarium is also free.
The museum has several facilities for the visitors including a restaurant and a shop. Facilities for the study of exhibits are also available at the museum.
