The history of St. Edward's College Liverpool
Founded by Father James Nugent in year 1853 St. Edward's College was initially known as Catholic Institute. This institute had gone through significant modifications and up gradation all through the 19th century. In 1909 Irish Brothers took the charge of this school. During the late 1930s, the new school building was constructed at Sandfield Park and during 1950s a number of laboratories were built in the school. The running track and the swimming pool were included in this school during 1960s whereas the Sixth Form division and the Sports hall were constructed during 1970s. 1967 saw the establishment of a Cathedral in this school. Since 1975, this school became a Choir school and the only Roman Catholic Cathedral Choir School which is voluntarily aided. Other features like Design Centre, Performing Art centre and Dining Hall facilities were incorporated during 1980s and 1990s. Early 1980s is marked by the transformation of this school into a co-education school.
