Rodney Street is one of the most historic Liverpool roads that reminds one of the naval hero Lord Rodney hailing from the 18th century, after whom the street is named. Lord Rodney had gained victory over Comte de Grasse. The Rodney Street was constructed in the year 1783 by William Roscoe.

Poet Arthur Clough was born in house Number nine, and Nicholas Monsarrat, who was the author of ‘Cruel Sea’, was born in house Number 11. Renowned author and biographer Lytton Stratchey resided in Number 80. Number 59 was the home and workshop of renowned photographer Edward Chambre Hardman. Dr. William Duncan, who was United Kingdom's first public health officer also resided on this street in house number 54.
