Liverpool Playhouse is one of the most renowned theaters of Liverpool. Many classic dramas have been performed here. It was one of the oldest repertory theaters of contemporary Liverpool.
Liverpool Playhouse was known as the Star Music Hall when it was constructed in 1866. It turned into a repertory theater in the year 1911. It was also the oldest repertory company of its time. This famous venue was closed in 1999. However it was reopened again. It has attracted audience of all ages since its establishment.
The later part of the twentieth century proved to be a golden era for Liverpool Playhouse. The Playhouse housed many performances by Gang of Four, which comprised Chris Bond, Alan Bleasdale, Willy Russell and Bill Morrison. "Blood Brothers" by Russell achieved international acclamation after it was performed at Liverpool Playhouse.
