The Liverpool Performing Art Institute is an institution that offers courses and programs in creative fields like music, acting, technical theater, dance, theater design, arts management and sound technology. The programs offered include graduate and post graduate degrees and diplomas. The foundation of the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts was laid by Mark Featherstone-Witty and Sir Paul McCartney.

Featherstone came up with the idea of establishing this sort of an institution after being inspired by the movie 'Fame'. The movie revolved around the New York

High School for the Performing Arts. He wondered about the kind of training that aspiring actors, musicians and technicians needed to undergo before making their entry in the field of arts and entertainment. He also came across a book which made it apparent that proper training was a pre requisite if not a necessity before becoming a part of showbiz. He prepared a rough draft of the whole project and updated it from time to time.
LIPA officially opened its doors for the people of Liverpool in 1996. Over the years it went on to add newer courses to its already existing programs. Each of these programs was designed to hone the talent of the individual and polish his skills. Last year the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts completed its 10th anniversary. Not being authorized to grant degrees, the LIPA grants "companionships" to its students. The Liverpool Performing Art Institute is a novel initiative to train people who have creative interests.
