Neptune Theater


Neptune Theater is an ideal venue in Liverpool where several performing art programs are held. It was previously owned by Cranes and was known as Crane's Music Hall. In 1967, Liverpool Corporation took over the hall and Neptune Theater was born.

Located in Hanover Street, Neptune Theater is one of the most renowned theaters of Liverpool. Established in 1913, this theater was previously home to many amateur groups. Though it was opened as Crane's Music Hall gradually it turned into Crane Theater in 1938. The theater closed it doors in 1966.

Birth of Neptune Theater:

It emerged as one of the most popular venues for theater in 1967 when Liverpool Corporation took over this theater and Neptune Theater was born. The name of the theater symbolizes the maritime history of Liverpool. The theater comprises 445 seats. Local people run the theater since its foundation.

Neptune Theater - A Period of Crisis:

Neptune Theater underwent a period of crisis in the early 1990s. The theater was closed in 1993 by the Corporation as the number of performances by local groups declined. However the local people as well as many famous personalities like Dame Judi Dench protested the closure of this theater. Thereafter "Snow White" was staged to attract audience to this theater.

In 1997, Neptune Theater was dedicated to Brian Epstein, manager of Beatles by the Liverpool Corporation. In 1999, the theater exhibited a portrait of Epstein, which was offered by Tony Brown.

Many famous theater personalities have performed in Neptune Theater. Some of the performers include Bill Bailey, Steve Coogan, Lily Savage, Ardal O' Hanlon, Harry Hill and so on. Neptune Theater forms an integral part of the cultural landscape of Liverpool.
