Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral represents a number of architectural designs and is one of the major religious buildings in Liverpool. It was opened in 1967 and serves as the office of the Archbishop of Liverpool.

Opened in 1967, Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral is situated at the city center of Liverpool. The most fascinating aspect of the cathedral is the striking architectural contrasts created by the use of various styles in its construction. The cathedral remains open everyday from 8 am to 6 pm and is one of the significant religious structures in Liverpool.

Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral is the main church of the Roman Catholics in Liverpool and also the office of the Archbishop of Liverpool. It displays different architectural patterns designed by several people like Lutyen, Scott and Gibberd.

Highlighting features of the Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool include circular designs, barrel vaults of brickwork, multi-colored windows made of stained glass, granite pillars and the spire which represents the Crown of Thorns of Jesus Christ. Most significant aspect of the cathedral is its crypt that was designed by Lutyen.

Concerts at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral in Liverpool hosts various orchestral and choir performances. These orchestral
and musical concerts, that feature performances staged by the choir members and various artists, are organized by Cathedral Concerts Society. Tickets to the cathedral concerts are available at the gift shop located in the Visitor Center.

For the Visitors

Metropolitan Cathedral of Liverpool is open everyday from 8 am to 6 pm. On Sundays, during winter, the cathedral closes at 5 pm. The Visitor center is open from 10 am to 5 pm from Monday to Saturday and from 11 am to 4 pm on Sundays. Visitors do not require any entry fee for entering the cathedral but they are requested to provide a donation of £3 (per person for the maintenance of the cathedral).

A wide array of facilities is available for the visitors at the cathedral premises. These include a cafe, car parking facilities, gift shop, visitors center, bar and toilets.

How to Reach Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

The cathedral is easy to reach and various means of public transports are available for getting to the cathedral. People can avail buses or trains to reach the cathedral. The train station Liverpool Lime Street Station is just 10 minutes from the cathedral by foot. Also located near the cathedral is the bus station of Paradise Street.

The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral is not only the most important place of worship for the Roman Catholics in Liverpool but also a major attraction of the city.
