One of the most popular railway network systems, Merseyrail operates two major lines in Liverpool. It operates a vast rail network including a surface network and an underground network. The main stations that Merseyrail connects include Southport, Hunts Cross, Ormskirk, Kirkby and many more.

Merseyrail is an integral part of the urban rail network in Liverpool, providing rail transport services including passenger charters. Merseyrail, in Liverpool, runs both surface rail network and an underground rail network. The underground network consists of 6.5 miles of rail lines and 5 stations. 66 out of 67 train stations in Liverpool are under Merseyrail which provides about 600 train services everyday.

Railway Lines

Merseyrail operates two major rail lines in Liverpool, the Northern Line and the Wirral Line. The Northern Line links Southport in the north to Hunts Cross in the south and Ormskirk to Kirkdale. Main stations on this line include Birkdale, Hightown, Hall Road, Waterloo, Ormskirk, Aintree, Kirkby, Rice Lane, Sandhills, St. Michaels, Hunts Cross and many more.

The Wirral Line begins at New Brighton and connects Leasowe, Hamilton Square, Manor Road, West Kirby, Birkenhead Central and many more. The last station of this line is Chester.
Station Facilities

All the stations under Merseyrail provide a large number of facilities for the people availing the trains. These facilities include escalators, lifts, cash point, refreshment facilities, telephone, automatic ticket machines, toilets and others. Buses and taxis are available in plenty from the Merseyrail stations in Liverpool.

Rail Passes and Tickets

Merseyrail offers various kinds of rail passes and rail tickets for the convenience of rail passengers. The validity of the rail pass varies according to the period for which it is bought. Rail passes can be bought for a period of 7 days, a month or a year. The rail passes is a favorable and cheaper option for commuters who travel by train regularly. The passes are available from all Merseyrail stations. The rail cards also making traveling by the rail route quite cheaper. Rail tickets vary from cheap day return tickets to standard day single tickets and seasonal tickets.

With a large number of train stations and a vast rail network under Merseyrail, it is one of the most widely used railway system in the whole of United Kingdom.
