Liverpool Mayor


Heading the Liverpool City Council, the Lord Mayor is the most prominent figure in the city government. A significant role in city politics and government is played by the Liverpool Mayor. The chief of the Liverpool City Council, the Lord Mayor is the representative of the city at national and international levels. He is the first citizen of Liverpool and the head of the executive board of the City Council.

Liverpool Mayor- the electoral procedure

The Mayor of Liverpool City Council is elected by all the members of the council. The annual general meeting of the council, in the month of May is specially held to decide upon the Mayor of the city. The candidate must be a serving member of the City Council to be eligible for the post of Liverpool Mayor.

The functions of the Mayor of Liverpool

The Mayor of Liverpool is chosen to serve his office for the duration of one year. The various functions of the Liverpool Mayor are as follows:
  • Work for the promotion of the city and enhancement of its reputation at the national and international political scenario
  • Presiding over the meetings of the Liverpool City Council
  • Attending civic functions and religious celebrations as representative of the city
  • Provide financial and other support to the local charities
  • Supervise the development of community groups
  • Bestow Honorary Titles to individuals as well as associations
