Primarily known as Mersey Television, the Lime Pictures was a television production company of Britain.
Bidding fortune with Granada television
Founded in the year 1982 by the famous writer and producer Phil Redmond, the Lime Pictures in Liverpool was recognized for its strategic bidding during the 1991 ITV network franchise auction. Bagging the bid for an appalling amount of 35 million pounds, Lime Pictures ( which had acquired the pseudo name of North Western Television) obtained the ownership of the license of North West England Franchise.
The North West England Franchise was initially owned by Granada television that was one of the most important ITV companies. Although Granada Television had also bid for the franchise in the auction, its 9 million pounds did not have any stand in front of Lime Pictures appalling figure. However, the license was not granted to Lime Pictures by the Independent Television Commission as it declared that the former did not suffice the quality standards.
