The Knowsely Safari Park is one of the chief attractions in the city of Liverpool. It was the first and one of its kind safari parks to be established in the country.
Located in Merseyside, the Knowsely Safari Park constitutes one of the premier attractions of Liverpool. The Knowsely Safari Park extends over an area of 200 hectares and is home to more than 30 different species of mammals. The park spans over a large area and thus provides a natural habitat for the invertebrates, birds and reptiles.
Establishment of the Knowsely Safari Park in Liverpool
Established by the 18th Earl of Derby in 1971, the Knowsely Safari Park provided the visitors with an opportunity to watch the wild animals in their natural habitat. At that point of time, there were no such safaris in the country like the ones that are presently found in East Africa. The opening of the safari was based on the

noble concept of taking the visitors for a ride through the park with the wild animals roaming about in close vicinity, became popular in no time.
Animals at the Knowsely Safari Park
The park initially comprised of an area of three and a half mile. It was home to animals like elephants, antelopes, giraffes, monkeys, cheetahs and zebras. With time and going by the increasing popularity of the park, its dimensions had to be expanded. New animals were brought into the park and these included tigers, buffalo, white rhino and camels. At present, lions and tigers are kept in separate enclosures. There is also a separate section known as the monkey jungle.
The Bug House at the Knowsely Safari Park houses a wide variety of reptiles like lizards, snakes and cockroaches. The park also includes a collection of British wildlife animals. The Knowsely Park is accessible from all corners of the city. The park is open for visitors from 10 am. Tickets are priced at £8 for children and £11 for adults.
