Early career of Jack Cox
Before John Cox had signed for Liverpool Football Club (LFC) in 1897, he played for other football clubs in Liverpool including South Shore Standard, South Shore Football Club and Blackpool. When he played for South Shore Standard and South Shore Football Club, John Cox was an amateur player. But soon he displayed his skills in the field of football and became a part of the popular football club in Liverpool, Blackpool.

In 1897, John Cox was signed for LFC and one year later, in 1898, he played for the club for the first time. Playing against Ireland, Jack Cox of Liverpool made his debut in international football in 1901. In his very first international match, Cox exhibited his mastery over the game. His valuable contribution to LFC earned him nationwide popularity and he took the Football Club to winning two Football League Championships, one in 1901 and the other in 1906.
Though he played on left and right wings in LFC and helped his co-players score many goals, Jack Cox himself made a large number of goals during his football career. He scored a total of 81 goals in all the LFC games and 73 goals in all the league games of LFC. Known widely for his tricks on the football field and described as speedy winger, Jack Cox went back to Blackpool where he was the player manager.
A precious gem in Liverpool football and a name known all across the world, Jack Cox passed away on November 11, 1955.
