Everyman Theater is one of the famous theaters of Liverpool. It came into being in 1964. Peter James, Terry Hands, Martin Jenkins founded this theater. The theater witnessed its first production on 28th September.
Everyman Theater was founded in 1964. Situated on Hope Street, Liverpool, this theater is housed in an old building, which was built in the 19th century. In 1837, this building comprised a church. In 1853, the church was closed and a concert hall replaced it. It transformed itself into the Hope Hall Cinema in 1912 but it was closed in 1959. It was reopened in 1961 and lasted till 1963.
The Beginning of Everyman Theater:
The Hope Hall Cinema was finally converted into the Everyman Theater that came into being in August, the next year. Peter James, Terry Hands, Martin Jenkins founded this theater. Liverpool Council provided funds for the establishment of this theater. They started producing plays from 28th September, 1964.
Even after the foundation of the theater one part of the building still served as a cinema hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The front part of the building was designed in a manner which locked the view of the Hope Hall. Everyman Theater was reconstructed in the year 1977. John Gardner and Alan Durband raised funds to rebuild the theater.
Famous Productions of Everyman Theater:
Many of the renowned artists have started their careers at this famous theater and some of them were Billy Nighy, Jonathan Pryce and Julie Walters and so on. Playwrights like Willy Russell wrote a number of plays for this theater including the musical drama “John, Paul, George, Ringo…. and Bert” and “Shirley Valentine”. The former one was based on the life of the Beatles. Everyman Theater witnessed a glorious era during the 1970s. Some of the famous productions of this theater include “An Enemy of the People”, “The Importance of Being Earnest”, “The Caretaker”, “Henry IV” and “Murder in the Cathedral”, “The Mersey Funnel”, “Jack of Spades” and “The Hypochondriac” and so on.
Everyman Theater also housed a number of musical dramas such as “The Trojan Woman”, “Sleeping Beauty” and many more.
At present the Everyman Theater is run by Deborah Aydon and Gemma Bodinetz.
