The Everton Football club has a long and extremely successful history which dates back to the year 1878 when it was formed. The team was initially a local football team of the St. Domingo School which played its first football match at Stanley Park. Soon, the St. Domingo’s team started gaining popularity among the local people and the club changed its name to Everton Football club in the year 1879. The Everton F.C. played its first match at Stanley Park against St. Peter’s on 20th December, 1879. The club became a founder member of the Football League and also secured a position in the FA Cup after an extremely dramatic victory over arch rival, Bolton Club. They won their first FA Cup in 1905-06.
The year 1925 was significant in the history of Everton F.C. since they signed Dixie Dean who scored the highest number of goals in league matches in one single season. Thereafter began the successful journey of Everton F.C. and they continuously won some significant matches with the help of Dixie Dean and others and in 1933 they won the FA Cup again. The club faced some bad years during the Second World War and thereafter, however, it again gained back its position after Harry Catterick was appointed as the secretary of the club in April 1961. The 1984-85 seasons was extremely remarkable since Everton F.C. defeated all its rival clubs and also secured the FA Cup. The club continued with its success story coupled with a few defeats as well, and in 2006, the club signed the Crystal Palace offer and England striker, Andrew Johnson.
