Liverpool City Council


The governing body of the city, Liverpool City Council supervises the overall development of the city. Liverpool City Council, comprising of 90 Councilors, facilitates the development of the community in fields of economy, infrastructure, education and others. The City Council of Liverpool operates from three centers namely Liverpool Town Hall, Municipal Buildings of Liverpool and Calderstones House.

Liverpool City Council- composition

The Liverpool City Council is composed of 90 local Councilors. The leader of the city council acts as the chief of the executive board. Various committees have been formed within the council to tackle particular areas of functioning. The Lord Mayor of the Liverpool City Council is the representative of the city as well as the first citizen.

Liverpool City Council- elections

The City Councilors of Liverpool are chosen by general elections. Divided into 30 wards, the Liverpool City Council elects 3 councilors from every ward. Each member of the City Council serves a term of 4 years and the elections are conducted to choose one councilor at a time. In case of death or resignation of a councilor, by-elections are held to fill up the vacant post.

The functions of the Liverpool City Council includes supervision of finance, development of infrastructural facilities, building of strong communities, building up a strong bond between individuals and groups at the national and international level.

Liverpool City Council- political parties represented

The political parties forming the present Liverpool City Council include the Liberal Democrats, Liberal Party, Labor Party, Independents and the Greens.
