A talented singer and performer, Cilla Black features as one of the famous personalities who originally belonged to Liverpool.

Cilla Black- early life

Born on May 27, 1943, Cilla Black was brought up in Liverpool. Her original name was Priscilla Maria Veronica White. She spent her childhood in a family which encouraged her latent singing skills. She was only a young girl when her interest in music led her to frequent music clubs like Zodiac and Cavern Club.

During these visits to the clubs, Cilla Black became acquainted with music sensations like Beatles, the Hurricanes, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Rony Storm and The Fourmost. Her talents also came to the forefront in her performances at these clubs. Her change of name happened by accident, when the magazine 'Mersey Beat' misprinted her name and Priscilla became Cilla Black.

Cilla Black- beginning of professional music career

Cilla Black's professional career in music started with her recognition by Brian Epstein. He convinced George Martin about the talents of Cilla and she was signed by Parlophone Records, a subordinate of the EMI Group.
Her debut on September 27, 1963, with the song, 'Love of the Loved' received a lukewarm response from the audience.

Cilla Black- significant hits

Cilla Black became famous with her second song, 'Anyone Who Had a Heart' recorded in 1964. This massive hit was followed by another, 'Il Mio Mondo' (You're My World). She became popular not only in Europe, but also topped the music charts in USA and Australasia. Her tenure with EMI Group witnessed the enhancement of her popularity.

Cilla Black- television appearances

Cilla Black also appeared on television in 1967. Her variety show telecasted on BBC became immensely popular and she drew an audience of approximately 22 million. The television shows like 'Blind Date' and 'Surprise! Surprise!' were also major success.

Cilla Black- recent releases

The recent releases of Cilla Black include 'The Best of 1963-78', a collection of the popular hits by the singer. She has also recorded her 15th music album, 'Beginnings' and written an autobiography 'What's It All About?'.

Cilla Black is married to Bobby Willis. She has three sons, Robert, Ben and Jack.
