Built in 1829, Aintree Racecourse of Liverpool is one of the most renowned venues for horse racing in the world. The racecourse also serves as the ground for other sports like golf and motor racing. It consists of various seating areas, bars, big screens and musical entertainment.

Aintree Racecourse: A Background

When it comes to horse racing in Liverpool, there is just one name, Aintree Racecourse. Famous not only in UK but in the entire world, Aintree Racecourse of Liverpool is situated on A59 Street in Aintree. The racecourse is the venue of the popular John Smith's Grand National race.

The racecourse was built in the year 1829. Races were first organized by Mr. William Lynn, the owner of Waterloo Hotel in Liverpool. Officially, the races started taking place in the early years of 19th century (in 1830s).

Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool suffered financial crisis after the Second World War. But a large amount of donations helped in the revival of the racecourse. Today, with a capacity of 150000, it is one of the famous racecourses of the world.

The most significant feature of Aintree Racecourse is the Tattersalls Enclosure. This area consists of the Aintree Pavilion which is a covered area that has live music, bars and big screens showing the races.

This area also comprises the Aintree Mound, the Parade Ring and Winner's Enclosure. In these places, spectators can view the final moments of the races.

Moreover, there are plenty of bars such as the Parade Ring Bar and the Irish Bar that provide refreshment.
People can also enjoy and relax at the Red Rum Garden which consists of entertainment facilities.

Among the above mentioned areas, most popular with race goers is Princess Royal Stand. Earl of Derby Stand is also a good option as it provides excellent view of the race from start to finish and also of the entire racecourse. Lord Sefton Stand is also a favorable seating option as it has a large number of seats and provides a comprehensive view of the racecourse. All the areas feature tiered seating arrangement as well as roofs where spectators have to stand and watch the races.

Not only racing, Aintree Racecourse of Liverpool also serves as a venue for weddings, conferences, and other events. Aintree has a golf course called Aintree Golf Center. It features among the top nine-hole courses in UK. Also, the Aintree racecourse includes a motor racing course where the European Grand Prix was held along with 5 British Grand Prix.
