In Arabia, the Arabian Wildlife Center, Sharjah is the only 'zoo' that exhibits different species of animals found in the Arabian Peninsula. It was opened to the public in September 1999, which houses more than 100 species of animals. These animals are kept in a safe, spacious place where the basic characteristics of the natural surroundings of different animals are maintained. The center plays a vital role in creating awareness among the people so that the various species of fauna found in the peninsula and other species which are on the verge of extinction can be protected.
Location and Visiting Hours of Arabian Wildlife Center
The Arabian Wildlife Center is situated at a very convenient location which is nearly 26 KM from the city center and also very close to the Sharjah International Airport. The visiting hours of the center from Saturday to Wednesday is between 9:00 am to 8:30 pm.While on Thursdays the center is open from 11:00 am

to 8:30 pm and on Fridays the visiting hours are between 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The Wildlife center is closed on Tuesday.
Bird Aviary of Arabian Wildlife Center
The bird aviary of the Arabian Wildlife Center is located in a wadi and desert environment. It houses numerous species of flamingos, songbirds, Rock Hyrax, Houbara Bustard and Indian Roller birds. The aviary has interesting places to visit like a walk-through-cave, a tank having blind cave fish from Oman. Beside the aviary the smaller cats of the desert like the Caracal, the Wildcat and the shy Sand Cat can be seen.
The nocturnal house is another attraction of Arabian Wildlife Center, where a extraordinary species of mammals like hedgehogs, twelve species of rodents, three species of fox, porcupines, mongoose can be seen. Some of the other attractions of the zoo are Arabian leopard, baboons, cheetah, wolves, hyena, and many other rare species of animals. The Arabian Wildlife Center, Sharjah is one of the favorite places of interest for both children and elders.
