Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority or SEWA is a government body that provides a good supply of water, electricity and gas to the people of the city. The principal aim of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority is to provide drinking water, electric power and supply natural gas to the citizens of Sharjah as per their demands. Supplying bottled water is also another important service provided by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority. This service is delivered by the Zulal Water Factory and is considered as one of the most reliable sources of drinking water.

Water services: The authority supplies safe drinking water to different parts of the Emirate from underground sources and also through a process of desalination. It distributes treated drinking water to commercial and residential areas through its networks.
Electricity services: It generates, transmits and distributes electrical power throughout the Emirate to meet the requirements of various residential and industrial sectors.

Gas services: The authority has started a piped gas service for both domestic and commercial use in the city of Sharjah. In 2005, it also started a project on utilizing CNG or compressed natural gas as a substitute for running motor vehicles.
It is gathered from the history of Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority that it was first owned privately and later became a government-owned body. The body was initially known as Electricity & Water Supply Company, which was later on changed to Sharjah Electricity & Water Department. This name too did not last for long and the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority finally received its current name.
To a great extent Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, owes its achievements to the efforts and continuous support of the Ruler of Sharjah, H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qassimi. The accomplishments of the authority are instrumental in adding to the prosperity of the city.
