Kuwait City is the capital of the emirate of Kuwait. The city contains most Governmental offices, the headquarters of most Kuwaiti corporations and banks, the Liberation Tower and the Kuwait Towers. The city is also a part of the Al-Asimah governorate. When the city was seized by the Iraqi forces in the 1990 Gulf War, it was named al Kadhima. After the expulsion of the Iraqi troops, the city received its original name of Kuwait. The city, which suffered extensive damage during the course of war, has now been rebuilt. Oil production is the main source of income in the city. Kuwait's economy has boomed and this allowed many international hotel chins to open their hotels in the city.
