Michel Aflaq the prominent Syrian political leader had a great contribution in the formation of Ba'th Party and Syrian politics as well.
Michel Alfaq: His Early Life
Michel Aflaq is the internationally famed scholar and socialist political leader of Syria. Born in Damascus in 1910, Aflaq belonged to Greek origin. His family was very orthodox in their outlook. Aflaq received his education from Sorbonne University of Paris. After achieving his academic degree, Aflaq returned back to his home town Damascus in 1934. He started his career as a teacher in a secondary school.
Alfaq and Ba'th Party
In year 1940 Aflaq founded an educational circle called Ba'th Party in collaboration with Salah al-Din Bitar. Afterwards this study circle was recognized as 'Arab Renaissance movement'.In 1942 Aflaq initiated his political career.

In 1947, Alfaq was designated as the senior member of the administrative committee of Ba'th Party. Although in August 1949, Alfaq was selected as education minister but ultimately he gave up this post after his defeat in general election.
Political career of Alfaq
In 1952 the newly established government of Syria announced the detention of Aflaq and he escaped to Lebanon to avert the arrest. Alfaq returned to Syria in 1954 to head the newly formed party which is comprised of Arab Socialist party and Ba'th. Some differences of opinion took place in his party and Alfaq found himself cornered and ultimately left for Lebanon again in February, 1966. In year 1967, Alfaq shifted to Brazil. In year 1970, Alfaq left for Lebanon in order to show his protest, when Ba'th rule at Baghdad refused to support the Palestinians in their revolt against the Armed forces of Jordan. During 1974, Alfaq retuned back to Baghdad to take the charge of leading party but soon realized his importance in Iraqi Politics is in name only.
Michel Aflaq passed away in year 1989 in Baghdad.
