The immense Kassioun Mountain dominates the topography of Damascus.
Kassioun Mountain- the geographical features
Towering over the cityscape, the Kassioun Mountain is one of the major features of Damascus geography. Part of the Al-Qalamoon mountain range, the Kassioun Mountain is about 1200 meters in height. The Yazeed River flows along the side of the mountain.

The slopes and foothills of the Kassioun Mountain house many small villages. The quarter of Al-Mohajreen is also located on the inclines of the mountain. The legendary Jebral's Cave of Damascus is situated in the mountain as well. The settlements shelter the various ethnic groups living in Damascus.
Kassioun Mountain- the attractions
Used as the summer residences by kings and royalty, the towns like Zabadani and Bloudan are still favorite tourist destinations of Damascus. Other attractions of the Kassioun Mountain include the monastery of Mouran Laura and the astronomical observatory constructed by Caliph Al-Mamoon.
