Damascus education comprises of a host of public schools that are scattered all across the city. There are a number of private schools in the region too. The United Nations also maintains a system of education solely dedicated to the children of the Palestinian refugees living in Damascus.
One of the leading private schools in the city is the Damascus Community School. The school is divided into three main sections, namely the Elementary division, the middle school and the High school. The school was formed with a view to impart quality education to the children of the foreign nationals who resided in Damascus.

Higher education in Damascus is ensured by institutions like the Damascus University. It has the reputation of being the first university in the country. The university is also the biggest in the country amongst a host of other universities like the University of Homs, Lattakia and Aleppo. The university has several departments catering to the research and development on various subjects. Some of these subjects include literature, law, pharmacy, engineering and human sciences.
