Some of the tourist attractions in Damascus are as follows:

Azem Palace:

It is one of the major attractions of Damascus. It was built in the 18th century AD. The building is a fine example of Damascene architectural flair. Ottoman governor Assad Pasha al- Azem used to live in this palace with his family. The palace has separate quarters for workers, slaves and concubines. At present the palace has the 'Museum of Popular Arts and Tradition'.

Citadel of Damascus:

Built in the 11th century AD, it is one of the most interesting places to explore in Damascus. The Citadel of Damascus can be considered as a small city within a city. The citadel with its lavish interiors, arched towers and rusticated blocks, reflect the architectural splendor of Ayybid masonry.

The Saljuki Castle:

The Saljukis built the Saljuki castle during the reign of King Atzin Adaq. It was partly destructed in an earthquake in 598 AD. Following the order of King Al-Adel, successor of King Atzin Adaq, it was completely destroyed and a new castle was built in 1202 AD. The castle has an efficient security system.

Old Damascene Schools:

Old Damascene Schools include the Al-Adiliyah School and the Al-Zahiriyah School. The Al-Adiliyah School reflects the Ayoubi architectural style. The construction of this school began in 1215 AD and continued till 1221 AD. The school was turned into a national museum in 1919 AD.

Al - Zahiriyah school complex is divided into two buildings. One building serves as the library and the other as the school. Quranic sciences were taught in this school. The library, on the other hand, is a national treasure. It is regarded as the oldest existing library in Damascus.

The Oqaiba Neighborhood:

The Oqaiba Neighborhood lies outside the city premises of Damascus. This place has a number of mosques, baths, palaces etc. You can spend a whole day exploring this place. There are a lot of things to see such as the Al-Taoubah Mosque, Beit Soulaiman, Al-Azem Palace, Al-Youssuf Family's House and much more.
