Schauspielhaus Pfauen is one of the most important theaters of Zürich and very popular among the theater lovers. Schauspielhaus is the largest theater in Switzerland that has hosted several performances under the directions of famous playwrights Schauspielhaus hosts plays in the German language and it is located at 34 Rämistrasse.
History of Schauspielhaus
Schauspielhaus Theater was founded in the year 1938. At the same site of the Schauspielhaus, there used to be a permanent theater named the People's Theater at the Peacocks in the 19th century. After the World War II, many plays of Bertolt Brecht were premiered in this theater. The plays include 'Mother Courage and Her Children', 'Life of Galileo', 'Mr Puntila and his servant Matti' and 'The Good Man of Sezuan'. Leopold Lindtberg was among the most influential directors of the theater during the post-war age. The notable playwrights of the 1950s were Kurt Hirschfeld, Max Frisch and Friedrich Dürrenmatt.
In 2002 and again in 2003, Schauspielhaus was awarded the status of 'Theater of the Year.' For the 2004- 2005 season, the director of the

theater was Andreas Spillmann and during the 2005-2006 season, director was Matthias Hartmann.

Since its establishment the Schauspielhaus Pfauen, is one of the popular theater among the German-speaking countries of the world.
