Zurich location and orientation has influenced the geography, climate and the lay out of the city. The city, located within geographical co-ordinates of 47° 22' 46" North and a longitude of 8° 33' 4" East, is one of the biggest cities and is the main commercial and cultural center of Switzerland. With a total land area of 91.9 square kilometers, Zurich in Switzerland is located at a height of 409 meters above the sea level. The city is 12.7 kilometers long and 13.4 kilometers wide. Zurich geography is varied with mountains, rolling plains and meandering rivers. Zurichberg, Kaferberg and the Uetilberg mountains border the green valley. Expansion of the old city of Zurich during 1893 and 1934 incorporated many neighboring municipalities. For administrative convenience, today the whole city has been divided into 12 districts also know as 'Statdtkreise'. The districts of Zurich are independent communities. The 12 districts of Zurich are Aussersishl, Enge, Flutern, Hirslanden, Hottingen, Oberstrass, Reisbach, Wipkingen, Unterstrass, Reisbach, Wiedikon and Wollihofen.
Rail and road are the main modes of public transport in Zurich city. The Zurich International Airport in Kloten is located 10 kilometers, north east of the city. The airport serves as a hub for air traffic as several flights arrive and depart from this city.
