Lake Zurich


Lake Zurich is one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland. The lake was etched out by the Linth glacier during the Ice Age. The total length of the lake is around 39 kilometers with a maximum width of 4 kilometers. This beautiful glacial lake in Zurich covers an area of 88 square kilometers and is 143 meters deep.

Linth is the principal tributary of Lake Zurich. After rising from the Glarus, it meanders through the Walensee and then flows up to Lake Zurich as a narrow canal. The old city of Zurich is located at the point where the river Limmat flows from Lake Zurich. The Limmat River after draining the lake from the North West end flows in Lake Aare.

Regions around Lake Zurich in Switzerland are
densely populated with about a million inhabitants. St Gallen and the Schwyz canton lie along its shores, while the third shoreline is free and is easily accessible.

Attractive boat rides are organized for tourists across Lake Zurich. Modern motor vessels and old steam ships offer passenger boat services and ferry the passengers across the shores. Between the months of May to October, evening culinary trips with live orchestra are also arranged.
