Swedish Police Force is one of the largest state services with around twenty two thousand employees. The Swedish Police Service detects and prevents crime. It protects the individuals' legal rights too. Another important duty of the Police Force in Sweden is to identify an offender and provide justice. The Swedish Police Force operates through 21 counties and 21 authorities. The Police Service also issues a variety of licenses and permits.
For efficient functioning Sweden Police Service is divided into different functional branches. These are:
- National Police Board (NPB) - This is the supervisory and central administrative authority of the Police Force headed by the National Police Commissioner. The NPB is also the controlling authority of the National Laboratory of Forensic Science, the National Criminal Investigation Department, and National Security Service. The National Police Board trains up police officers through its National Police Academy.

National Laboratory of Forensic Science - The Laboratory performs forensic tests of samples taken from crime sites.
National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) - The NCID conducts investigation and prepares intelligence reports on crimes of national importance.
National Security Service – The Security Service is entrusted with the job of anti-terrorism, combating espionage, and protection of the Swedish constitution and sensitive objects. The National Security Service provides the resources, methodological processes, and intelligence to the field police force in fighting terrorism, espionage and threats to national security.
National Police Academy – This is the educational center for the total Swedish Police Force.
