Swedish Museum of Natural History is located in Stockholm. In the year 1819, the Swedish Museum of Natural History was founded. The museum is locally known as the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet which in Swedish means the ‘National Museum of Natural History’.
Swedish Museum of Natural History is one of the tourist attractions in Stockholm. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences founded the Swedish Museum of Natural History in 1819. The exhibits of this museum of Stockholm are mainly donated by the Academy of Sciences which was set up in 1739.

Stockholm in 1786. Sven Nilsson and Anders Sparrman were efficient keepers of the museum when it was associated with the Academy of Sciences.
Later in 1965 the Academy of Sciences no longer remained part of the museum. Presently the Swedish Museum of Natural History has been set up at Frescati, near Stockholm. Adjacent to the museum, the campus of the University of Stockholm has been set up.
Axel Anderberg designed the present building of the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm. The new building of the museum was finished by 1916. The dome of the museum is a noted piece of architecture. Cosmonova, an IMAX cinema has been set up at the museum which is one of the largest planetariums of the country.
