After rejecting several other locations, Vasterhaninge in Haninge Municipality was chosen by the Church leaders to set up the Stockholm Sweden Temple. The temple is situated very near to the city of Stockholm. The announcement to
set up the Stockholm Sweden Temple was made on 1st April 1981. The ground

breaking for this temple was done by Thomas S. Monson on 17th March, 1984. President Gordon B. Hinckley inaugurated the temple in 2nd July 1985.
The announcement to build Stockholm Sweden Temple faced no opposition. The Haninge Municipality renamed the street to Temple Road or Tempelvagen, where Stockholm Sweden Temple was to be built. The project for building the temple was welcomed by the Municipal officials.
The Stockholm Sweden Temple is built on an area of 14,508 sq ft. There are 3 sealing rooms and 4 ordinance rooms in the temple. Six spire design has been adapted for this temple. This temple in Stockholm is associated with the Latter-day Saints and serves the foundation from Norway and Sweden.
