Skansen Museum Stockholm is the first open-air folk museum of Europe. In the year 1891 this museum was opened. This popular tourist destination is located at Stockholm's Djurgarden Island. Skansen is a park that covers an approximate area of 75 acres. More than 150 historical buildings can be seen in the park.

Skansen Museum, the Open-Air Folk Museum of Stockholm
The Skansen museum is a part of the Nordic Museum. The museum of Skansen is situated in the eastern part of the Biological Museum. Artur Hazelius, the renowned folklorist is the founding member of this open-air museum. As industry was developing in Stockholm, new buildings and offices came into existence and Mr. Hazelius felt the need to preserve some of the older buildings of the city.

Finally, in 1891 this open-air museum was founded by bringing together the old buildings. A manor house, residences of Lapp, a church, farmhouses of peasants, workshops of craftsmen, and farmers’ cottages are some of the attractions of Skansen Museum. The buildings that are mainly seen here were built in the early 14th century.
Mini-Skansen
The tourists also make it a point to visit a zoo named "Mini-Skansen", situated within the premises of Skansen museum. It has over 70 species, some of which include seals, wolves, seals, bears, exotic fish, and lynxes. Beside this, African species are also found in the zoo.
Shows Held at Skansen
Throughout the year a number of summer concerts as well as traditional festivals take place at the Skansen Museum Stockholm. In this museum several circus performances are held. No fee has to be paid to enjoy these shows. Usually, during the holidays a huge number of dance as well as music performances are arranged within the museum premises.
