Reimersholme is situated in the central part of Stockholm. The island of Langholmen is located very near to Reimersholme Island. Previously this small island was known as Rakneholmen. From 1798, the island came to be known as Reimersholme. The island derived its present name from magistrate Anders Reimer.
Reimersholme Island was previously a part of the Liljeholmen municipality. Till 1957 Reimersholme remained under the Brannkyrka parish and then it went under the Hogalid parish in Sodermalm.During 1860s, a wool manufacturing factory known as Stockholms Yllefabrik was set up in Reimersholme.

Prisoners from Langholmen Island came to work in this factory. During 1880s, houses were constructed on Reimersholme Island for the first time. A housing association bought the factory area in 1939. The housing association, known as HSB, constructed about 900 houses by 1942- 46. HSB also took over the factory area of the Reymersholms Spritforadlings AB to construct new houses.
Reimersholme is situated close to another tourist destination Sodermalm. A 13 meter wide and 39 meter long bridge called Reimersholmsbron connects Reimersholme with Stockholm. Tourists can also take bus line 40 and bus line 66 to reach Stockholm from Reimersholme.
