Pontus Hultén was a popular art collector and music director of Sweden. Karl Gunner Vougt Pontus Hultén, was born on 21st June 1924 in Stockholm. Pontus Hultén earned immense fame and accolades as a creative artist of that period.
In the year 1970 Pontus Hultén was called to take part in the making of Paris Centre Georges Pompidou and became its first director in the time period of 1974 to 1981. His aesthetic taste and creative aspect was greatly adorned by the people of that time.
Pontus Hultén Early Life
Pontus Hultén was born in the city of Stockholm. He was a student of art history in the University of Stockholm. In 1950 he became a warden in a small art gallery of Stockholm and started organizing screening of films. In 1960 Hultén became the head of the Art Museum of Stockholm called Modern Musset.
It was under Hultén's patronage that Modern Musset turned into a popular art institution of 1960, hosting several exhibitions of famous artists like René Magrittel, Bror Hjorth, Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollock, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Sigrid Hjertén and Sven Erixson.
Hultén held many exhibitions based on unique themes like "4 Americans" with artists like Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg. Solo

done by him with Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenberg and Edward Kienholz.
In 1968 Hultén joined the New York Museum of Modern Art exhibition as a rector. It was under his tenure that the museum won immense popularity worldwide with "SHE" exhibition, which was a cathedral of a bending women statue and her womb was the gateway for the tourists.
Later Life of Pontus Hultén
The period of 1973 was the turning period of his career. Hultén started organizing shows after joining Centre Georges Pompidou Paris as a director. In the year 1980 Hultén went to Los Angeles on invitations from Sam Francis and Robert Irwin for the construction of Museum of Modern Art.
Within the time frame of 1984 to 1990 Pontus Hultén was controlling Palazzo Grassi of Venice. Serge Fauchereau and Sarkis were founded by Hultén with the help of Daniel Buren. Hultén also acted as the Artistic director of Kunst-und Ausstellungshalle in Bonn, Jean Tinguely Museum at Basel.
Pontus Hultén dedicated his life to art and gifted all his 700 precious work to Modern Musset in 2005 November. The visitors can also see his personal collections as those are also displayed there. He spent his last retired life in Paris and died on 26th October 2006 in Stockholm.
